Memorial to the Ash Trees:

Multiple 24″ x 36″ boards (landscape orientation) for final drawings and visuals
1/8″ Final Model
Consistently formatted 8.5″ x 11″ or 11″ x 17″ sheets of process sketches, drawings, and diagrams
All study models

Final Drawings/Visuals Listing:
- Site Plan clearly articulating overall plans for the site footprint including outdoor spaces (preferably 1/8″ scale as part of your 1st floor plan)
- Floor Plans clearly articulating indoor and outdoor spaces at each level as appropriate (preferably 1/8″ scale for at least the first floor, can scale down to 1/16″ scale for subsequent floors)
- Building Sections (2): Transverse and longitudinal, carefully selected to show important spatial relationships (preferably 1/8″ scale, can scale down to 1/16″ if necessary)*
- Building Elevations (2): Major elevations along Walnut and Main Streets*
- Interior Perspectives/Experiential Views: 3 interior perspectives carefully selected to show important spatial and effectual relationships**
- Exterior Perspectives/Experiential Views: 3 perspectives perspectives carefully selected to show important relationships between building, site, and humans**

* Note that you have the option of providing section perspectives and/or perspectives of your elevations (in addition to the other perspective requirements) to substitute for orthographic sections and elevations. Also note that these perspective drawings should be sized appropriately to communicate as clearly in lieu of orthographic drawings.

** Perspectives should be large in size to clearly communicate the quality of your project and decision making.

Fieldtrip

Assignments for the field trip will involve documenting some of the museums we will visit in Canada. For those going on the field trip, we will document the buildings listed below, onsite through drawings and photographs. Those not going on the field trip, will find and analyze (with drawings and diagrams) as much documentation as possible on the same museums using the library’s resources. We will share and present all information on our return the following week (as research and precedents for our next project…hint, hint). Here are the buildings:
-Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto (Daniel Libeskind)
-National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa (Moshe Safdie)
-Canadian War Museum, Ottawa (Moriyama & Teshima Architects and Griffiths Rankin Cook Architects)

Writing Assignment

Please write about your project (one page, or 3-4 paragraphs)

Here is a brief outline of points to make in your writing:

Kind of structural system used, what its made of; any precedents you found using the same or similar system
How the structural system is deployed as an ordering system giving organization to the site and building
Other site influences that informed organization and form-making
How the structural system and building form work together on site, specifically how these systems: (1) imply entrance and spatial sequence, (2) organize the site into a holistic spatial composition, and (3) make a formal/organizational gesture to the river
